Teenage sensation Hansika Motwani who climbed the ladder of success and fame with her very first release 'Aap Ka Suroor' would soon be seen paired against Virar Ka Chora, Govinda in the film, 'Money Hai To Honey Hai'.
Hansika shares that the character she plays in the film is very close to what she actually is in her real life.
Q. What's the story line of your upcoming film, Money Hai To Honey Hai?
A. I cannot reveal much about the film. All I can tell you is that it's a comedy flick which I am sure people are going to enjoy. Just wait and watch.
Q. Your character in it…
A. Well, I am playing the character of a television star who wants to be a film actress. The character tells how she works to become a star when she has money.
Q. So what kind of preparations have you done for the film?
A. For this film I have really worked hard on my looks. I look completely different from my first film. Also I have toned down to give this role a very happening look. Hopefully audience will get a pleasant surprise.
Q. How close is the character to your real self?
A. Yes, the character is very close to my real life. Playing me was fun.
Q. How was it working with such a versatile and senior actor like Govinda?
A. Working with Govinda sir was a pleasure for me. I got to work with him at a beginning of my career. I find myself lucky. I learnt a lot from him. Also he helped me out with dancing.
Q. Any interesting incident that you can recall that took place during the shoot?
A. Actually nothing in particular, because during the shoot of the whole film, we enjoyed a lot. We used to have lunch together, and at times we played cards too. The whole film was a treat for me.
Q. Did anyone play any kind of prank on you on the sets?
A. Touchwood, no one has ever played any prank on me yet. As I was the youngest on the set, everyone used to be very sweet and kind to me. Above all, I too was a good girl there.
Q. How easy or hard is it to adjust between film shoots and your schooling?
A. Not very hard because I study in international board which has a very flexible schedule. Being a doctor's child, it's very important for me to concentrate on my studies as well.
Q. Are you happy with your career graph?
A. Definitely. I am just a movie old and my second is going to release soon. Yes I am happy for the kind of work I am doing.
Q. What according to you is the success mantra in Bollywood?
A. In Bollywood, you can't touch the success line without hard work. I am a complete believer in hard work.
Q. Any plans of working on small screen?
A. No. I would not like to comment on this. I think time speaks better.
Q. What are the other projects you are working on?
A. I am not allowed to disclose anything. Let the time come and everything will be clear. But yes, I can promise one thing that people are going to see me more.
Guru which most consider your finest performance to date came at the start of 2007. Do you think it's forgotten at the awards at the end of the year?
Why do you say that? Rang De Basanti had also been released in January. Awards are no doubt very very encouraging. But there have been many notable films in the past that haven't won awards. At the end of the day the greatest award is a successful film.
One chooses a film because it seems interesting, not to see how many awards it will finally get. Guru was an acclaimed and successful film. It's one of the biggest hits of 2007.
Are you more possessive about Sarkar Raj than Jodha-Akbar since the former stars you with your wife?
No. At the end of the day I am an actor. And we're both thoroughly professional. It would be incorrect for me to be possessive about our film together. I am both an actor and her husband. I'm possessive about her, not her films.
It doesn't matter whom she works with. In fact I really like her pairing with Duggu. I think they looked good together in Dhoom 2 and Jodha-Akbar. I wish that pair all the best.
Interestingly the first and second turning points in your career were both courtesy Mani Ratham?
Yes, Yuva and Guru. Mani is very special. He had faith in me at a time when most people had lost faith, including myself. He's a friend and mentor. I hope I never let him down. I'd love to work again and again with him.
He knows I'm only a phonecall away. According to me he's one of the most talented directors we've ever had. Mani is very reserved. If he has another film for me he would tell me when he's ready.
You went through a prolonged lean phase at the beginning of your career?
During the times when my films were flopping I had friends like Karan Johar who kept my morale high. I can't deny access to the industry was easier because you are a Bachchan.
And I guess I did have it much easier than many people. But once you get a chance you've to prove yourself just like anybody else. I had to struggle.I almost gave up after seventeen failures.
My father kept saying, just keep working and believe in yourself. Thankfully better days were around the corner. You've to work very hard to get anywhere in this business. And I'm working hard.
However there's no formula for success. When I decided to do Guru a lot of my friends thought it wouldn't work at all. By the grace of God it did well.
Are you pleased with your assignments?
Of course! How wonderful to be working at a time when an actor gets to do a Sarkar Raj, Drona and Dilli 6 during the same year. It's a dream come true for any actor.
Why did you initially opt out of Dilli 6?
Rakeysh Mehra mentioned the subject to me many years ago. He finally decided to shoot it in winter 2006 when I was committed to shooting Drona.
I suggested he do it with someone else. He asked Duggu who asked me if it was okay. I was perfectly okay with that. But then Duggu's dates didn't work out. Then Rakeysh decided to re-write the script.
By then it was December 2007 and I was thankfully able to do the film. The rest, I hope will be history. Rakeysh is a very sensitive director and I love working with him. I was meant to start my career with him.
How has the experience in Jaipur been so far?
It's like attending acting school every morning. When would I again get an opportunity to observe and work with actors like Waheeda Rehmanji, Chintu Uncle (Rishi Kapoor), Om Puriji, Deepak Dobrial, Pavan Malhotra,, Vijay Raaz, Atul Kulkarni, K.K Raina….It's school! It's cool!!
Both you and dad are huge fans of Waheedaji?
Who isn't? This is my second film with her after Om Jai Jagdish. I just keep staring at her.
Actors would do anything to be in one frame with her.
And what about your co-star Sonam Kapoor?
I saw Saawariya and thought her wonderful. When I started my career I wasn't half as good as Sonam or Ranbir.
It's wonderful to see this whole eager enthusiastic new generation coming in.
Cheerleaders being wrapped cricketer being slapped, Is cricket turning into a Tamasha? Bollywood reacts...
Celina Jaitley: "No I don't think cricket has become a tamasha. I think everything that's happening at the IPL is being turned into a tamasha. Sreesanth being slapped is very unfortunate. I feel that the spirit of sportsmanship which makes every sport noble is now going out of cricket. Sad.
Hema Malini: "Yes, cricket has become a big tamasha. The dignity of the game is completely lost. Cricket by itself is so engrossing. Why does it suddenly need women to cheer on the players and the public?
There's absolutely no need for such distractions. The Indian public had no clue about such entertainment (cheerleaders) before this. And now there's slapping during the game! I am shocked.
Urmila Matondkar: "I don't think cricket is turning into tamasha at all. It's just that cricket has turned more glamorous exciting and bigger. As for the cheerleaders I don't think they serve any purpose at all. We don't need to copy the West blindly."
Naseeruddin Shah: "It's been heading towards that direction for a while. But hasn't everything becoming a tamasha? Look at the daily news."
Mahesh Bhatt: "The triumph of entertainment and the death of cricket. In the desperate effort to entertain our entire existence has become grotesque.
Sonu Sood: "No I don't think so. People in this country have a tendency to overeact. Cheerleaders add glamour to the sport. So why not treat it that way?
Don't spectators enjoy the presence of these cheerleaders at football games abroad? But here there's bound to be a reaction to everything that's new. Sad. What happened to Sreesanth was not right.
I agree cricket has become more of a tamasha less of a sport lately. At least to me it's no longer exciting.
Aryan Vaid: "I've always been a huge cricket fan. Nothing can take away from its popularity. Tomorrow it may can turn into a ras leela, it won't matter. It will continue to grow in popularity.
As for the cheerleaders I don't want to play a spoil sport. But I don't understand the need for so much flesh display. The IPL is a tamasha. And that's what sells. Ask Rakhi Sawant and Mika about it ha ha.
Chitrangda: "I really feel it's more a tamasha than a sport. All I hear are numbers involved in the money-spinning market. I miss the real sport, the real use of talent and the genuine intention of the sport. I'm afraid it's being played for the love of the money and not the game."
Kushal Punjabi: "Firstly this is hardly cricket. T20 is a completely new format. All the rules have been changed, so why not go the whole hog and make it a fun-filled event with cheerleaders, celebrities, the works?
As for the slap, fights happen in every sport. So let's not get carried away. Let's just enjoy the tamasha and let's be entertained. We are an entertainment-crazy people.
Muzzamil Ibrahim: "I've played cricket under 16 and on national level. Cricket per se incites passion. No need for cheerleaders and other props to set the pulse running. It has to be some non-cricketers who have turned into a money-making circus.
Ashish Chowdhary: "Well cricket is meant to be entertainment for all. And cheerleaders are a fun part of it. We don't need to ape the West. But it's entirely up to the organizers what elements they want to bring in.
But please let's not bring in the moral police. There's more nudity happening on tv. We get offended in the country for the silliest of reasons. As for Sreesanth's slap it's a matter between two team mates.
They's understand their bonding better than any of us. If Sree complains it should be looked into. If he doesn't we need to mind our own business. Emotions always run hight during sports events.. If cricket has become a tamasha I love every bit of it.
Samir Soni: "Certain frills might have been added to the cricket format to broaden the fan base. But that apart the game continues to be intensely engaging. The slapping incident is unfortunate.
But such things happen in any sport so why single out cricket? About the cheerleaders the less said the better. Cricket being big in our country everything about it gets blown out of proportion.
Prakash Jha: "Ha ha. Market pressures will turn everything into a tamasha. There's much more of it coming up."
Riya Sen: "Cricket as a game has a huge credibility attached to it. Some peculiar situations may arise. But nothing can take away from its charm."
Tusshar Kapoor: "Everything is turned into media entertainment these days. With so many channels on the air the appetite for controversy is insatiable."
Koena Mitra: "The slapping on the field was an ugly situation not expected from a sportsman. But I'm sure this incident is just an isolated one.The Indian team has such unity it's impossible for them to fight with one another.
As for the cheerleaders, they can't be dressed in sarees on the field. Come on! Some politicians are again wasting their time fighting a bogus issue.
Rohit Roy:"Well T20 is meant to be a tamasha kind of cricket in any case. It's the perfect blend of cricket and entertainment with Bollywood ka tadka.Quite like the baseball games in America.
The incident between Bhajji and Sree, however unfortunate, proves that cricketers are not taking the game lightly. I'm hosting the Jaipur leg of the tournament.
I've seen the matches from close quarters. Let me tell you they're fought tooth and nail. As for censoring the cheerleaders, that's another example of moral hypocrisy that exists in oir country.
Neetu Chandra: "No I don't think it's a tamasha at all. Rather it's a celebration of cricket and I'm sure the ILP will be like the Olympics of cricket.
It's amazing to see so many professionals apart from sports persons making the IPL happen. I hope everyone puts aside personal issues. Because the whole world is watching India."
